The cost of the renovations will be split three ways. Minneapolis tax payers will chip in the most, at $48.5 million or half the cost. The Timberwolves and Lynx will pay $43 million, or 44 percent. And Target Center operator, AEG will contribute $5.5 million, or 6 percent.

The fortress like entrance at Sixth Street and First Avenue will likely be a glass atrium. Which is a much more welcoming facade for the one million visitors who pass through those gates for games, events, and concerts.
And local businesses can wait.
Autographs are a big deal, but so are big profits whenever top concerts come to town. "I go from a $6,000 to a $7500, $8000 dollar night just because I get that influx in," says Morris.
The visitors bureau "Meet Minneapolis" wants the newly renovated Target Center to give that other stadium over in St. Paul, some serious competition.
